Athletes and the Expression of Ligaments

Limber.

For an athlete, it’s an ideal state—right?

Athletes need to limber up before a competition.

But there’s a fine line between being too lose and too tight.

“A splendid balance” is how Jon Zahourek puts it in this video from 1990.

Ligaments are the expression of the body’s flexibility.

But being too loose can be a problem (an ankle sprain, say). So can being too tight.

Either way, ligaments are easy to take for granted.

Until they’re injured. And then they let us know—you have asked these collagenous fibers to do too much!

It’s as if they’re saying we’ve got breaking points, you know?

Without happy ligaments (which connect bone to bone) the whole joint squawks.

That’s nature. She’s got a system.
